B.A.A.D stands for Bold Aesthetic Aspirations & Dreams
I began my academic and professional development in the world of engineering. This was in 2017 and I have since maintained this view about the world. As a marketer, now I see markets as engineering tools. Ways in which to engineer communities and to improve them based on communicating needs, problems, and solutions. I consider engineering as design and I consider design as applied art. The art of solving problems. This is why I have dedicated my professional career to this very thing. Solving human problems. Beyond my formal training, I am a learned producer. That is, a person inclined to creating products. Products need markets and people need products. The right product in the hands of the right person serves for utility that money could never fully capture. This is why I believe in markets. They catalyze human relation and realization. I am currently also exploring my engineering skill set in fashion and graphic design, as well as in multimedia production and engineering (i.e., music and film). I am a skilled photographer, director, writer, and video editor.
My work primarily consists of projects combining the use of multiple techniques in order to tell a story and to create a world. I am very inspired by Walt Disney and Michael Jackson specifically and I try to capture a sense of wonder woven between my work. My proudest creative work to date is the soundscape, visuals, and story of ReCool-Man, a tragic hero who spans multiple generations in the fictional universe that features the Sea City. An initial installment into the short story series is also a part of this portfolio. The music, videos, and clothing features of this portfolio reflect both respective and adjacent scenes conveyed in the story “Echoes” and the general world of “Evry Day”.
In addition to my creative pursuits I have also developed a love for experience and event engineering. By founding the arts and culture club, Amphitheatre, through the Thompson Rivers University Student Union, I have been able to explore this passion. I know what it takes to both create, manage, and sustain an engaging and vibrant event experience, as well as marketing and communicating in an immersive and engaging manner.
I strive to foster connection in my work by means of universality. My multimedia approach aims to achieve a situation in which all manners of young people with varying backgrounds and interests could find common ground in appreciating beauty and the wonder of human existence. Art is good at doing this and curated events are great for creating an inviting atmosphere where community can be built.
The stories I am telling are designed to be archetypal. They are meant to be understood by everyone as each individual may likely deal with one aspect of the journey or the other and may even be able to identify with characters. Communication through clothing, and universal means such as video and music also are intentional in order to communicate and invite people to be immersed in the world in whatever fashion suits them. This makes my work accessible beyond local barriers. Increasingly we live in an information based global society and this fits snuggly.
My reason for creating the club Amphitheatre was to foster engagement between creators and audience here in Kamloops and specifically at Thompson Rivers University. The student union got good information on the kind of things students would want to engage in and the use of campus facilities and venues ensured that campus felt vibrant. I look to continue to engage creatives to harness their gifts for the betterment of their communities and for community members to value applied art in their lives and cherish their friendly neighborhood artists.
I am still exploring my abilities and passions. I believe that the skills that I have now are ideal for marketing anything that could potentially be of value to someone. However, I am hungry to learn more. To explore more. The horizons of fashion and art. Of form and function. The lines between reality and surrealism. The boundary between formal and informal. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for innovation.
